The Cake Man was an easy read. I appreciated that. It really kept my attention and made me want more. I thought that this book was definitely well written with the exception of the ending.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering how Chris made it out the game with all that money, yet his father chose to reenter the game. He had his out when his son got out. It couldn't be an issue with money because with Chris having all the money he had, he could have given his dad some and perhaps one of the businesses that they had built to keep him and his mom going, besides that, his mom still had the beauty shop.Least to speak that Chris would not have had most of that without the use of his father's reputation.
I thought that they should have handle Ali and Chino in the very beginning. It should not have been any way that those two were able to continue to drug and rape unsuspecting women. I was glad when the one girl helped Cheniese out of the house and got her to the hospital before she ended up like the first lady in the beginning of the story (the teacher).
I was really surprised at the level of commitment that Jasmine had for Chris. I must say that I would probably have said something about all the infidelity because they had an agreement in the beginning that if he decided to go out and have sex with other women for him to just tell her. I guess when you are in love though it overrides your better judgement.
Overall, I liked this book and finished it very quickly.
The book was interesting and I enjoyed it. I think Chris made the decision to start selling drugs versus getting a job, because it was quick money and it was a lot more than minimum wage. Also, he was accustomed to a certain life style and he wanted to continue in.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of Chris's in this world as it relates to the "dope game". All they see money that is quick and easy. Although he had if what you would call a happy ending it doesn't always turn out that way. A lot of brotha are dead or in jail as a result of the game. I know there are quite a few that made it out, but just barely.
I am glad that Ali and Chino got what they deserved they were ruthless. Unfortunately there are Ali's and Chino's in this world today who degrade and misuse women. Young and older women have to be more careful. This brings to mind the current situation that has been in the news-all the lives Anthony Sowell has taken (My prayers go out to all the families and friends).
Overall the book was easy to read and it kept my interest.
